The Cold Kitchen is a cozy winter classroom mini-week from Winterberry Cabin, designed for Kindergarten to Grade 3.
Through a story, a song, and simple hands-on activities, students explore what to do when something doesn’t work the way they hoped and how small changes can help warm things back up again.
Inside the lesson, children will:
Listen to a winter story about a frozen kitchen
Sing and move to a classroom song
Dress Potati the potato for the seasons
Draw and write about feelings in the story
Reflect on what helps them when they feel “frozen”
Create a Warm-Up Toppings cup connected to hot chocolate
This resource is designed to be:
✔ quick and flexible
✔ easy to print and use
✔ winter-themed
✔ appropriate for late January and February
✔ adaptable for classrooms with or without food
It works beautifully for:
Winter classroom routines
Story-based learning
Social and emotional reflection
Music and movement
Cozy classroom days
The Cold Kitchen can be taught in short daily lessons or as a special winter celebration with a hot chocolate theme.
