Little Chewz is a teacher-created educational platform that helps kids build confidence, connection, and community, through food. Our story-based resources combine food education with literacy, social-emotional learning (SEL), and classroom wellness to support whole-child development in schools and at home.

Founded in 2013, Little Chewz creates:

  • Bilingual (English/French) lesson plans for PreK–Grade 8

  • SEL-infused cooking and wellness activities

  • Printable classroom tools and food-themed writing prompts

  • Children’s books and characters such as the Cutlery Family

  • Professional development, speaking, and custom workshops

About Lisa Trout

Founder of Little Chewz

Lisa Trout is the founder of Little Chewz, a teacher-led platform that brings food, storytelling, and social-emotional learning into the classroom. She’s an author, certified health coach, and trained cook who believes food is one of the most powerful tools we have to spark meaningful connection, with ourselves, with others, and with the land.

At the heart of her work is a simple mission: to help teachers and parents engage children in fun and meaningful ways. She believes that by leading with heart, you open the door to better communication, collaboration, connection, and community, both in and out of the classroom.

Lisa teaches French Immersion in Alberta and is also an instructor at the University of Calgary, where she teaches Design for Learning and Health & Wellness in Schools. She is passionate about designing practical, culturally responsive, and joy-filled learning experiences that help children thrive.

Bend and build bilingual brain power

When I was young, learning French didn’t come easy to me. I would feel a tightness in my chest and stress in the pit of my stomach. Today, I use yoga to help me process my anxiety, and I use it in my classroom, too. When I’m teaching French to my immersion students, yoga helps them slow down and melt away their nervous energy, which gives them a confidence boost and prepares them for the challenging task of learning another language.
