Chewlandia Travel Journal • Stop #1: Turtle Tide
Some places are easy to find. Turtle Tide isn't one of them. You may not see it on a map, and if you ask the locals where it is, they'll probably just smile and tell you to "follow the sea turtles."
So I did.
About an hour later, I found the tiniest ice cream shop I have ever seen. There wasn't a single familiar flavour on the menu. No chocolate. No vanilla. Instead, there were names like Blue Lagoon Breeze, Campfire Maple Crunch, and Turtle Tide Swirl.
When I asked where these flavours came from, the shopkeeper laughed.
"These are the ones the rest of the world forgot."
It felt like I had arrived to this magical place. It was the perfect place to visit today because July 1 is Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day! Today is a celebration of imagination, creativity, and dreaming up unique ice cream flavours that have never existed before.

Three Flavours Worth Remembering
Turtle Tide Swirl
Creamy vanilla bean, salted caramel ribbons, snappy chocolate shell, crunchy waffle cone pieces, and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt. It's the kind of ice cream that tastes like warm evenings by the water, sandy feet, and not caring what time it is.
Blue Lagoon Breeze (Dairy-Free)
One of my favourite things about summer is discovering new dairy-free ice cream flavours that everyone can enjoy. When I got my training as a health coach back in 2011, I felt like a mad scientist in my lab trying to find the best dairy-free options for my kids only cooking classes. Trial and error with coconut milk and then other dairy free milks was fun but a frustrating task to get that same creamy feel. Thankfully we are more aware now and there are plenty of great options! This one blends creamy coconut milk with pineapple, mango, blueberries, and toasted coconut into a tropical scoop that feels like sunshine in a bowl.
Campfire Maple Crunch
Since today is also Canada Day, this flavour couldn't resist sneaking onto the menu. I secretly think that the people over at Maplewood Cottage stopped by earlier and left behind a nice little Canada Day treat for us! This one mixes maple ice cream with roasted marshmallow, dark chocolate chunks, buttery oat crumble, and crunchy pretzels. Sweet. Cozy. A little nostalgic. Almost like summer at the cabin.
One Last Scoop
As Turtle Tide slowly came to life, one song kept playing in my head. It eventually became "One Last Scoop", a relaxed reggae-inspired tune about squeezing every last drop out of summer. It reminded me of one more beach walk, one more sunset, one more laugh and one more scoop before the season changes. The summer is just beginning, let's squeeze out as much as we can!

People sometimes ask me what Little Chewz is. Honestly... I am still finding the words.
To me, it's a place where food becomes more than something we eat. It's where recipes are family stories and celebrations become adventures.
