Summerween at Blackwood Mansion: The Library Popcorn Mystery

The tiny trail of popcorn led me farther into Blackwood Mansion than I had planned to go. It disappeared beneath a tall oak door carved with old keys, stars, and ravens worn smooth by time.
The library.
The room felt frozen in time. Books stretched from floor to ceiling, their worn leather bindings glowing softly in the afternoon light. Dust drifted through the air like tiny floating spirits, and somewhere high above me an old clock ticked just a little too slowly.
At first...nothing seemed unusual.
Then...Pop.
A single piece of popcorn landed beside my shoe. I looked up. Nothing. Another kernel bounced across the old wooden floor.
Pop.
This one disappeared beneath a bookshelf. Curiosity has always been my greatest weakness. So I followed.
The trail wound through towering shelves until it stopped at a tiny reading nook tucked beneath a stained-glass window. Someone had prepared a snack. A black bowl overflowed with buttery popcorn, tiny pretzels twisted like branches, pastel chocolate candies, candy eyes, and a drizzle of white chocolate that sparkled in the afternoon light.
Beside it rested a folded note. It wasn't signed. It simply read:
"Questions always lead somewhere wonderful."
Those words felt strangely familiar. Earlier that morning, the groundskeeper had mentioned someone named Evelyn Redwood.
"You'll probably never see her," he'd smiled.
"But if you find a clue... she's probably already found you."
They say Evelyn isn't a ghost. She doesn't haunt Blackwood Mansion. She simply appears wherever stories are unfinished and curious people are willing to ask one more question. Some visitors notice a soft lavender glow. Others discover objects that weren't there a moment before. Most simply leave with more questions than answers.
I looked around the library. The room was still...quiet, empty.
Or so I thought. For just a moment... I caught the faintest shimmer disappearing between two bookshelves. Perhaps it was only sunlight.
Perhaps not. I reached for a handful of popcorn. Strictly for research purposes, of course.
It might have been the best popcorn I'd ever tasted. Or perhaps everything tastes a little more magical inside Blackwood Mansion.
Movie Night at the Mansion
Every summer, when the sun disappears behind the trees, the Cutlery Family gathers inside Blackwood Mansion for one mysterious movie night. No one remembers who chooses the film. An extra bowl of popcorn is always placed on the table for Evelyn Redwood. No one has ever seen her eat it. Yet somehow... the bowl is always empty before morning.
As I brushed the last crumbs from my hands, a soft click echoed across the room. One of the oldest books slowly opened by itself. Inside lay an old brass key tied with lavender ribbon. The tiny tag read:
"When the music begins... bring the key."

Almost immediately, I heard it. Not footsteps. Not whispers. Music. Soft piano notes drifting somewhere deep within the mansion.
I slipped the key into my pocket and followed the melody down a hallway I hadn't noticed before. The doors ahead shimmered beneath stained glass. Above them, carved into the stone, were two curious words:
The Potion Ballroom.
