Something very strange has happened in the Global Food Village, and Chewlandia News is on the scene.
Early this morning, just as vendors were beginning to open their market stalls, a tremendous CRASH echoed through the village. Fruit rolled from baskets. Market signs rattled. Birds scattered from the rooftops. And when everyone rushed toward the centre of the village, they stopped in their tracks, because sticking straight out of the cobblestones was...
a massive noodle
Not a bowl or a plate of pasta, but one enormous noodle. It was twisted, tangled and partly buried in the ground. Stranger yet... It was still warm.
Chewlandia News Arrives
Within minutes, the area was roped off. Vendors gathered behind their counters. Children peeked between market stalls, and Chewlandia News reporters arrived to investigate.
Where had the noodle come from? How had it landed in the middle of the Global Food Village? And why was part of it buried beneath the ground? Nobody knew.
The noodle was measured, photographed and inspected from every angle. One vendor suggested tasting it. That suggestion was quickly rejected. For most of the morning, the giant noodle simply sat there. Until someone noticed something.
"Was it always that tall?"
Everyone looked. They measured it again. It wasn't. The noodle was growing.
And Then Things Got Weird
At first, nobody believed it. The noodle was measured again. Then again. There was no mistake. It was getting taller. Before long, new strands began pushing through the cobblestones. They twisted around the original noodle and stretched toward the sky. Vendors backed away. Cameras moved closer.
DEVELOPING STORY: The mysterious noodle appears to be taking root.
By lunchtime, the Global Food Village had a much bigger problem. The noodle had become a tree.
The Noodle Tree
Thick strands twisted together like a trunk. Long noodles hung from its branches, and small pieces of pasta had begun appearing where leaves should have been.
Nobody could explain it. But once everyone realized the tree had stopped growing, curiosity took over. Tables appeared. Vendors brought out bowls, broth, vegetables and toppings. Soon, the whole market was eating noodles together beneath Chewlandia's strangest new landmark.
What began with a crash had somehow brought everyone to the table.
It's Official: August 26 Is Noodle Tree Day!
The Global Food Village has now decided that this is one day Chewlandia should never forget. Every August 26, we're celebrating Noodle Tree Day, a day to gather around the table, build a bowl your way, try something new and, of course, eat noodles. And you can celebrate the very first one with us!

But There's Still One Problem...
Investigators still don't know where the original noodle came from. They don't know why it was warm. And they definitely don't know how a noodle took root beneath a cobblestone street. For now, the Noodle Tree has stopped growing.
For now.
